Collaboration of Watford Goalball club and Museum of Watford
Exciting news for Watford Goalball Club! We are proud to announce our collaboration with Museum of Watford as part of their upcoming Grassroots Sports display. This initiative will showcase the incredible diversity of sports played in Watford, and we are thrilled that goalball will be part of the story.
A Celebration of Grassroots Sport in Watford
The Museum of Watford is currently in the process of redesigning its exhibits and moving to a new home at Watford Town Hall. One of its new interactive galleries will focus on the role of grassroots sports in shaping the local community, highlighting teams, athletes, and the history of sports that have had an impact in the area.
The display will celebrate a range of themes, including:
The passion and commitment of local athletes.
The barriers broken by teams and individuals to make sports more inclusive.
The unique identity of Watford sports clubs and their contributions to the wider sporting world.
More information about the new Museum, made possible by The National Heritage Lottery Fund, can be found on the Museum’s website: https://www.watfordmuseum.org.uk/
Watford Goalball Club's Role in the Panel
Watford Goalball Club has been invited to be part of the Grassroots Sports Co-Curation Panel, where we will help select objects and stories to be featured in the display. As a panel member, we will have a say in how goalball is represented, ensuring that our club's history and the sport’s impact on the visually impaired community are highlighted.
Our representative, Ciaron Naughton, will be attending four panel meetings to discuss the design and content of the exhibit. These meetings will involve collaborating with other grassroots sports representatives to decide what objects, images, and stories will be featured in the final display.
This is an exciting opportunity to ensure that goalball is recognized in the museum’s exhibition, allowing more people to learn about our sport and its significance within the Watford community.
What This Means for Watford Goalball Club
Being part of this panel allows us to:
Raise awareness about goalball and the opportunities it provides for visually impaired athletes.
Showcase our club’s journey and contributions to grassroots sport in Watford.
Encourage more people to get involved in goalball, whether as players, volunteers, or supporters.
We are incredibly excited to be part of this project and can’t wait to see goalball represented in the new Museum of Watford. We’ll be sharing updates as the project progresses, so stay tuned!
If you have any stories, photos, or memorabilia that you think should be included in the display, let us know! Together, we can make sure goalball gets the recognition it deserves.
