Watford Goalball Hosts Its First Home Tournament! 29/03/2025

For those unfamiliar, goalball is a Paralympic team sport designed for athletes with visual impairments, where teams of three players throw a ball with bells inside into the opponent’s goal . We are thrilled to announce that Watford Goalball Club will host its first-ever tournament at our training centre, marking a huge milestone for our community. This upcoming event will be the first time we welcome other goalball teams to compete on our home court, and our players and volunteers couldn’t be more excited. It’s going to be an action-packed day of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and community spirit!

A Historic Day at Our Training Centre

Our first home tournament will take place at our training venue Watford Leisure Centre on Saturday 29/03/2025, and it promises to be a historic day for the club. After months of practice and preparation, we finally get to showcase goalball right here in our hometown. The atmosphere is sure to be electric as we play on familiar turf with the support of our friends, family, and local supporters cheering us on.

Watford Goalball has come a long way since we started, and hosting a tournament at our own centre demonstrates how much our club has grown. We invite everyone to come watch the matches – whether you’re a long-time supporter or simply curious to see goalball in action, come and join in the excitement!

Our Team of Three Players Ready to Compete

The club is proud to be entering a team of three players into the tournament, representing Watford on the court. These three athletes have been training hard at our two sessions per month, building their skills and teamwork in preparation for this big day. Each player will be on the court at the same time during games, working together to defend their goal and score points against the opposition. The dedication and enthusiasm they have shown is truly inspiring. We couldn’t be prouder of our players. Be sure to give them a big cheer and encouragement on game day!

Fundraising Sale: Supporting Our Future

In addition to all the on-court action, Watford Goalball Club will be holding a fundraising sale alongside the tournament. This community sale is aimed at raising money for our team’s future expenses and development. We’ll have a variety of goodies available – think homemade bakes and refreshments – so you can enjoy the day and support a great cause at the same time. Every pound raised will go directly towards helping our club and players continue to thrive. All proceeds will go towards:

• Travel expenses for future tournaments – helping our team attend away matches and represent Watford across the region.

• Equipment and gear for the team – from goalballs and eye shades to team jerseys, ensuring our players have what they need to train and compete.

• Training and development programs – supporting facility rental for practice sessions, coaching developments, and the growth of our club to include more players of all ages.

• Overall club development – investing in the long-term success of Watford Goalball, so we can host more events and introduce this amazing sport to more members of the community.

We encourage everyone attending to stop by the fundraising stall, grab a treat. Your support will make a real difference in the lives of our athletes and the future of our club!

Join Us for a Day of Community Fun and Sport

Mark your calendars and spread the word: our first home tournament is not just about the competition, it’s a celebration of how far our community has come. Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, a supporter of inclusive athletics, or a curious newcomer, we welcome you to be part of this special day. Admission to watch the games is free, and all ages are welcome. There will be volunteers on hand to explain the rules of goalball and ensure everyone has a great time.

This tournament and the accompanying fundraiser truly embody what our club is about – teamwork, perseverance, and community support. We want to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, and friends who have helped us get to this point. Your encouragement and assistance have been the backbone of our journey. Now, let’s make this event a big success together!
